Meeting Minutes – May 2016

I. Call to Order​​ – May 26, 2016

• Welcome New Members and Guests

  • Several new members were in attendance at this meeting, and we are grateful to have you all.

II. Review of Previous Minutes​​ – Waived

III.​​ Treasure's Report

• Account Balance: $ 5574.62

• Cash Flow: $ 902.40

• Paid Members: 30        

  • Unpaid members, pay your dues! This money goes towards funding club events, material, etc.

IV. Current Business

• Miami Springs Optimist Club Homebrew Event (4/30) @ Ted's NFL - Miami Springs

  • Winner: JP - Urban Brewers

  • We had​​ a great​​ turnout with​​ both​​ MASH members and non-MASH local brewers.

  • Will be repeating this event in the future.

• AHA Big Brew (5/7) @ Lincoln's Beard Brewery - Bird Road Art District

  • 7 batches were brewed (6 all grain/1 extract) on 7 rigs​​ -35 gallons​​ total.

  • Best turnout for a Big Brew Event, with over 20 participants.

  • Interest was shown in doing another group brew day. Perhaps where people brew their preferred style.

• Brew at the Zoo (5/7)​​ –​​ No MASH presence at this event. Word that it had a poor local/craft presence.

• Homebrew Discussion Panel (5/21) @ Wynwood Brewing - Wynwood

  • Matt participated on the panel along with Corey (Widmer Brothers), Nik (Wynwood) & Luis (Wynwood)

  • It is highly recommended to attend this if it is repeated. The session was very informative.

• Hogtown Brew-off (5/20-21) 

  • Mike Moussa - Silver - Specialty Wood-Aged Beer

  • Joseph Diaz - Bronze - Experimental Beer (Forrest Floor Pine Ale)

  • Florida Homebrew Club Standing​​ –​​ MASH is currently​​ 6th place​​ in a tight race. Enter your beers to help us boost our ranking!!

  • Competition participation provides you valuable feedback on beer quality, aspects to improve, and stylistic accuracy.

• Transition of Competition Coordinator - Bob Billany is staying!!

V. New Business

• Upcoming Competitions

  • Sunshine Challenge​​ – Entry window is closed. If not entered yet, you missed it!

  • Check ReggieBeer for other competitions

• Homebrew Con (6/9-11) @ Baltimore, MD

  • Florida Homebrew​​ Circuit is taking kegs up. Anyone interested needs to get beer to Tampa, FL ASAP (no later than 6/3)

• Upcoming Events

  • Veritage (10/5) @ Wynwood Walls​​ –​​ Wynwood​​ – This is a very classy event, with catered munchies. It is a lot of fun to attend, so brew some beer for it!

  • Grovetoberfest – October. Date TBD

  • Brew FIU – November. Date TBD

• Summer​​ Solstice Party/June Meeting will be held 06/25/2016 at Lincoln’s Beard Brewery!

• BJCP Prep Sessions - TBD coordinated by Jhirley Fonte – Beer tasting sessions in order to improve your palate for BJCP exam.

• Josh Hubner is to begin coordinating MASHups - Social events such as happy hours, bottle shares, etc.

• MASH Poker Night is to be scheduled by Matt Waldron for August. Location​​ TBD.

• History Lesson​​ –​​ Thanks Josh Hubner, for sharing with us. Josh​​ gave a very informative talk on the history of Florida beers, and breweries. He is taking this talk to the National Home Brew Convention.​​
