Meeting Minutes – August 2016

I. Call to Order – Aug 25th, 2016 7:50 p.m.

• MASH had a large turnout of New Members. Welcome! We’re glad to have you as part of our club.

II. Review of Previous Minutes – Was waived.

III. Treasure's Report (Dave Kirsten) – We’ve got money.

 $5,397.17 in the bank

 We have a positive Cash Flow of $700.00

 We have three (3) new paid members.

IV. Current Business

• First Coast Cup 

  • Congratulations to Mike Moussa who received Bronze for his Kolsch

  • MASH has slipped to 9th​​ place in the Florida Homebrew Club Standings

    • There has been low club participation

    • 1 competition still has its registration open – Best Florida Beer Competition. Register and help boost MASH’s standing!

• Sign-up forms on website for event participation (Veritage, Grovetoberfest, etc.)

• MASHups - Social Event/Bottle Share - mid-September event @ BoxElder (Josh Hubner)

• MASH Poker Night - TBD (Matt Waldron)

V. New Business

• Upcoming Competitions

  • Commander SAAZ (9/16-9/17 - Final Judging)

    • This is a great event to participate in. Well organized, with events through the weekend.

    • Club reimburses for first two entries.

  • Best Florida Beer Competition​​ 

    • Entry window open until 9/10​​ 

    • 10/8 - Final Judging is held

    • Any paid member is reimbursed for first 2 beers entered (As with any Florida Beer Circuit competition)

  • Check ReggieBeer for other competitions

• Upcoming Events​​ 

  • Veritage

    • ​​ Held (10/5) at Wynwood Walls – Wynwood

    • Laid back event that MASH has participated in for past several years

    • MASH would like to have at least 5 kegs, needs member participation

    • Directions, badges, and arrival times will be given out once available.

  • Grovetoberfest​​ 

    • Held (10/15) at Peacock Park - Coconut Grove

    • MASH is securing a tent for this event

    • Member participation is needed, to supply kegs, and help serve at the event.

  • South Florida Brewfest will be at FIU Biscayne Campus (11/19)

  • Next MASH-up will be at Box Elder in Wynwood – Tentative date of September 28th

  • MASH Poker Tournament is Aug. 30th

    • Texas Hold’em

    • Will be held at Lincolns Beard

  • BOTY 2017 Categories

    • Winner of each month’s BOTY receives a coaster

    • Last year, a poll was used to determine BOTY styles.

    • A vote was held and was in favor of using a poll to determine BOTY 2017 styles

• BOTY 2017 Categories

  • Winner of each month’s BOTY receives a coaster

• Coconut Cup

  • We host this event late February/early March.

  • This is MASH’s big/critical Fundraiser. All of MASH needs to help for it to

  • Besides, it’s a fun time!

  • A shadow is needed for Bob​​ Billany, to learn what he does for Coconut Cup.

• Officers/Elections for 2017

  • Anyone interested in running for officer should start looking on our website at the positions available.

  • Upcoming meeting will have nominations

• MASH hosting Club BJCP Exam

  • Planning to host exam in December, 2017.

  • Club will hold study sessions, and provide kits/study packets to help prepare members.

  • 12 slots – initially available for new attempts, then will be made available for members wanting to retake BJCP exam.

  • Second – Mike Moussa. – Cherry Hefeweizen

  • Third – Daniel Kinard. – Key Lime IPA 

• Sep: Smoke-flavored & Wood-aged Beer
