President’s Message – October 2013

Greetings, Mashers!

I am looking forward to seeing you all at our monthly meeting on Thursday, October 24th. Once again, Jacob Lindsay has been kind enough to open the doors of Daddy Brews (4427 SW 74th Avenue) for our gathering. We are expecting a large crowd. If you are able, please stop by a little early to help Jacob set up. Additional folding tables/chairs are welcome.

If you plan to purchase any brewing supplies from Jacob (which is highly encouraged), please reach out to him in advance at daddybrews at gmail.com or (786) 382-5161. He will pull your order and have it waiting for you upon your arrival. We don’t want to distract Jacob, as he will be kicking off our meeting with a brief educational session on our BOTY style for October – IPA’s. Samples will be available!

By the way, the BOTY calendar for 2014 <http://miami-homebrew.org/competitions/competitions/brewer-of-the-year-2014 /> has been posted to our website. Be sure to review the list and start planning your brewing schedule!

Following the style presentation, we will conduct our monthly business meeting. There are two primary topics which require some attention:

  • Winter Solstice Party (December 14th)
  • The Coconut Cup – Our annual AHA/BJCP sanctioned Homebrew Competition It’s been an exciting month

Our social committee arranged a fun-filled field trip to the Oktoberfest celebration at Fritz & Franz Bierhaus in Coral Gables. (A second round at the German-American Club may be in the works!) And 55 gallons of homebrew was poured by MASH members at last weekend’s Grovetoberfest at Peacock Park. I understand the beers received rave reviews!

Let’s keep the momentum going.

Cheers!

Dave
