President’s Message – September 2013

MASHers,

Just a reminder that Jacob Lindsay has graciously offered to host our next meeting at Daddy Brews – 4427 SW 74th Avenue (click here for directions).  We will begin at 7:00 p.m., but feel free to arrive early and purchase some brewing supplies!

The BOTY category for September is German Wheat and Rye.  Matt Waldron will be leading our educational session and guiding us through the various styles within this category.  There will be plentiful commercial examples to sample.  (Don’t worry, he’s bringing pretzels!)

Following the style presentation, we have much to discuss:

  • The entry window for the final competition of the 2013 Florida Homebrew Circuit, the Sunshine Challenge, closes on October 6th.  Final judging of the competition will take place in Orlando on November 1-2.  For those of you who have not had the opportunity to attend a competition, I highly recommend it.  Not only is it great fun, but you’ll gain valuable experience either as a steward or judge.  Besides, it’s just cool to hang out with a bunch of beer geeks.
  • The third edition of Grovetoberfest is right around the corner.  MASHers have been brewing furiously in preparation for the festival.  Bob Billany will be providing additional details around the logistics for this event.
  •  B.R.E.W. FIU will be hosting their fall craft beer event, the South Florida BREW Festival, on November 23rd.  Many of you have expressed interest in representing MASH at this event.

Other items on the horizon that will require our attention include:

          BOTY Calendar for 2014

           Winter Solstice Party

The Coconut Cup (It’ll be here before you know it!)

We’re expecting a few new faces at this meeting, so be sure to wear clean underpants and bring plenty of samples of your homebrew!

I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

Cheers!

Dave
